I think Uranus and Neptune at first couldn’t actually control themselves and it took them a bit longer than they exected to be able to get rid of mind control. Probably they agreed on what to do with the others or overstimated their abilities

I like this interpretation. They’re still at fault for agreeing in the first place, but it lessens the guilt of Pluto and Saturn’s deaths. I’ll wait a bit to draw my own conclusions (in case there’s anything upcoming that indicates to the contrary), but for the time being I am desperately accepting any theory that allows Uranus and Neptune not to be complete monsters.
