[½] If you want to watch a nice palatable musical with a cute cast and great staging and whatnot, start with the new myus. They follow canon storylines and are very honed + in character so it’s a sensible place to start.
[2/2] But if you want to wander the weird + wacky path of the old myus, I’d recommend starting at 1999 Kaguya Review. It’s the 1st original story with an all-round great cast and fantastic songs. And it’s probs the best introduction to the fact that the oldmyus are a) rly fucking weird b) often ooc c) make v little sense e) have questionable choices when it comes to props costumes and pretty much everything else… BUT they’re also my fave things in the world and I could not recommend them enough.
Saving all these replies for future reference! I’m thinking of finally entering the world of a musical either for a Twitter follower milestone or for this blog’s anniversary (which is sometime next month). Don’t take me at me word though, I feel like I’ve been saying the same thing for years.
I will say I am horribly familiar with the soundtracks, and at least music-wise, every musical has its hits and misses. Whether it’s over the top cheesy or genuinely high quality, I will no doubt find something to enjoy in whichever one(s) I watch!
