I’m going through your your clear card liveblog bc the last anon sure brought back memories and i just realized that the whole show is basically an anime equivalent to a 50k+ fic written just to cater to the author’s very specific interests. Also in both cases you can’t wait for the next installment and you leave with a new appreciation of obscure musical instruments/madieval french poetry/rare species of tropical fish

You’re absolutely right, clear card is just a wish fulfillment sequel fic that also serves as a vehicle for extremely niche interest trivia and I LOVE IT

re: the new myus, is there any performance that strikes you as unusual/unexpected? I liked Yuga a lot but felt like her way more energetic take was odd for Mamoru, even if everyone is peppier in the musicals for performance reasons.

As far as unexpected goes, the shittennou as a teen heartthrob boy band takes the cake. And yet it makes perfect sense. The inner senshi casting is perfect, like they’re just the cartoons come to life. The immaculate costuming helps with that, but their mannerisms are pitch-perfect too. Rei constantly in an aggressive stance, Usagi acting like an absolute goofball, Makoto’s everything. Musical Mamoru I find takes himself extremely seriously even though his speeches and entrances and acting is even MORE over-the-top than usual, which makes his whole experience absurd and it’s great. Beryl is my queen. So that’s my one sentence hot takes based on having seen half a musical! 

What I want to Clear Card season 2: more of Tomoyo and Syaoran friendship; TOUYA/YUKITO!; Tomoyo and Sakura great grandfather showing he cares about Tomoyo too; TOUYA/YUKITO WEDDING; Tomoyo and Meiling dating; More chinese characters (maybe Syaoran’s mom this time?) and they talking in cantonese; TOUYA/YUKITO HOLDING HANDS AND BEING CUTE; I like Syaoran/Sakura but SHOW ME MORE TOUYA/YUKIT

See, here’s the reason I like SeraMyu. Characters like Tuxedo Mask absolutely exist to be in this sort of medium, since they always act like they’re on stage anyway. The anime kinda-sorta had to keep things reasonable. Here? Take all the hamminess and run with it, it’s a show! :D

I’m in total agreement! In some ways this is the format where Sailor Moon can shine best. The bombastic speeches are a key staple of the musical genre, and it also allows for super elaborate costuming and a lot of self-referential humor.

(tomoyo & syaoran anon here) !!!! i’m rewatching clear card too bc for all of its holes i loved seeing my children and i love their faces so much. and idk, i just love the idea of tomoyo and syaoran meeting up before sakura shows up and coming up with plans to make her happy. “i won’t go on your date if you promise to compliment her outfit and be nice to her brother” “deal”

I agree that Clear Card’s plot was… there, but the character work was stellar! I LOVE this sequence when Tomoyo silently reaches out with her psychic powers to say WAVE BACK AT YOUR GF YOU BABY CASHEW NUT

You know a friendship I really enjoy from CCS that I don’t see a lot of love for? The friendship between Tomoyo and Syaoran. tomoyo ruthlessly bringing up sakura into every conversation in part to see syaoran’s face. dressing him up to match his gf. just all the torture she makes him go through it’s great i want to see more of it

Tomoyo and Syaoran make a great team!! The whole reason they’re friends is because they exist on the same mental wavelength of “PROTECT SAKURA AT ALL COSTS.” And of course Tomoyo can exploit that for all it’s worth by going “it’ll make Sakura SO happy if you try on this new outfit I made for you, including the glow in the dark shoes, do it for her”

OMG, can’t wait for the next volume. Also, thanks a lot for reminding me that that paperclip holder is an actual thing that exists, for it pretty much symbolizes my whole life at this point. ^-^;;;

This is my favorite piece of merch of all time because to justify the price it comes with EXACTLY TWELVE novelty shaped gold-plated paperclips, and it’s like, no one wanted this but we got it anyway

As someone not from the U.S. who has never watched the old English dub I have to ask: how much of the subtitles in your screenshots is made up or altered, and how much is an actual transcript of what the characters were actually saying?

On the screenshots, it’s how the dialogue actually goes! 100% accurate!! Even though it sounds exactly like something I would just make up for laughs!!!! The comic sans probably doesn’t add any credibility so I understand.

(also I saw “Old English dub” and I was like, you’d think I would know if they translated Sailor Moon into Anglo-Saxon)

That’s the WEIRDEST thing is, like, Neo Queen Serenity remembers how messed up Chibiusa was when she first met her as a teenager, and she’s still completely insensitive to her kid’s emotional distress. You need to make sacrifices when you have a closed time loop to maintain, I suppose.
