Do you get a spring break this year, or has college work gotten too grueling even for that?

I’m on spring break right now! But I still have a ton of work to catch up on. Every time I think of watching the next PGSM or Princess Tutu, I think of minimum four things I should be doing for class. I’m reluctant to use school as an excuse; other people seem to be able to run blogs while at university just fine, so maybe I’m just lazy, or unfocused, or a perfectionist, or an unholy combination of all of the above. I think I’m also throwing myself into as many activities as possible this semester, because I graduate in two months and I’m afraid of missing out on The College Experience. I feel bad for stringing you all along for a completely unpredictable “who knows when she’ll surface again” type of blog, but that’s how i roll: a dream in my mind, a song in my heart, and the attention span of a young but well-intentioned goldfish

Anyway, if you want to keep up with me outside of the Sailor Mooniverse, you can follow my main blog @platypusinplaid, which is updated slightly less sporadically

Did anyone ever mention that the slideshow of random pictures of the moon was where sponsors were listed in the TV broadcast? The English dub of Sailor Moon Crystal you can watch on Viz or Yahoo currently has a similar deal where they left in the placeholders for sponsor readings, so after each set of credits you just get a random screencap over a piece of the music you just heard minus vocals.

It would make sense to have the sponsors shown over images of the actual show! But the ones at the end of the PGSM opening are just like, hey little production studio intern, we’re late on this deadline and need some vaguely related imagery for the last twenty seconds of song, and then the little production studio intern goes to Google “stock photo of the moon” > Images > Labelled for reuse > Download All. I love it

Here’s another dumb question inspired by an UtenaMoon reblog: Would you rather have Meiling, Chibiusa, or Nanami as a relative hitting on you with a bad English dub voice?

TRICK QUESTION I’ve never seen any of the dubs! Personality-wise rather than vocal-wise: They all basically have the same problem (childlike insecurity) and deal with it in the same way (attaching themselves to someone emotionally close who they think will give them the validation they need). Honestly these girls all just need a cup of hot chocolate and a lot of positive support

Since Sea of Serenity does have the episode titles beside the download links, I’ll just tell you something interesting I saw about the mitten plot in the translator’s notes: Did you know that “ami” can mean “knitting” as well as “friend”?

KNITTING FRIEND AMI

I just saw your old tag about Cardcaptor Sakura being a cherry tree that plays Yu-Gi-Oh. Given how many Clow Cards are good at trapping people, does Sakura ever get to use one and gloat that someone has activated her trap card?

Probably, she does.*

*I should mention that I also don’t know anything about Yugioh other than “shadow realm” and “trap card”

Did you hear that Saitou Kun was in the first musical?

I DID NOT KNOW THIS INFORMATION BUT I’M SO GLAD TO HAVE IT

I imagine he has a stirring musical number about punching people in the face and failing out of school

followed by a choreographed dance solo à la Fred Astaire

Have you ever seen the Sailor Moon S game for the Playdia? I think you should look up recordings of the FMVs for a fun surprise.

Most things in my life that invoked the phrase “fun surprise” have ended badly.

It looks like a Kotaete-Moon-Call-interactive-story-quiz sort of deal, which has me excited! I suppose the reason I have not already seen and talked at length about this is because I don’t understand a word of Japanese. It looks cute, though, and in the end, that might just be enough. It’s the journey, not the destination.
