Of course, part of the gimmick of a hooded, masked costume is that it can be worn by more than one person. We may be seeing two or more different people wearing the same disguise. I particularly thought of this because when Eriol talks to Syaoran about this mob of D magicians there’s an image of three similarly dressed figures, as if that outfit is in fact the uniform of the group.

So if we’re placing bets, I’ll wager one (1) pudding cup that the figure in Sakura’s dream and the weirdo up on the power pole like Tuxedo Mask are different people in matching outfits.

WHAT’S BETTER THAN 1 AKIHO? 12 AKIHOS

Hey, apropos of nothing, I don’t think I get what’s going on in the ED sequence. I see Sakura and Syaoran meet for a date (he is dressed like Spongebob), Tomoyo literally lurks in the bushes with her camera, Sakura and Syaoran walk part of the way home together before Syaoran leaves and Tomoyo swoops in to intercept Sakura. They get home to find Kero-chan has eaten the pudding cups, peeving off Sakura. So far all clear! (1/2)

But then I get puzzled. They hang out in Sakura’s room with many bottles of orange soda playing cards. Sakura looks worried. Kero-chan twerks at the stroke of midnight and we’re specifically shown it is now 1 April. Why are these kids up so late? Sakura’s phone bings and she checks it, finding some message which makes her look sort of weepily happy, she shows it to Tomoyo and they are all happy again. Sakura and Syaoran meet for another date. (2/3 actually)

SO! Why the emphasis on the date and time? Who texted Sakura at midnight on 1 April? Will we find out on 1 April in real life? Is it all an April Fool’s joke? Why was Sakura looking so worried? If you’d been out with your established boyfriend you wouldn’t be anxiously waiting for him to call or text to set up another date, and it would be weird for him to do it at the stroke of midnight. I mean I know Syaoran is dramatic, but that’s excessive. AND WHY IS KERO-CHAN TWERKING.

We fools thought that the mysteries were limited to

I was confused for a while too until I was wiki-ing with wild abandon a few weeks back, looking for unrelated trivia, and found out that Sakura’s birthday is on April 1! (I would say it’s a coincidence, but by CLAMP rules, there’s no coincidence only fate) So I assume Tomoyo and Sakura are partying all night at a wild Go Fish-based rager so she can ring in her birthday with style, and Syaoran is such a good boyfriend that he stayed up just to be the first one to wish her a happy birthday which Sakura almost cries at because she is a sweet summer child. WHY KERO IS TWERKING NO ONE WILL EVER KNOW; IT IS A FORBIDDEN SECRET LOST TO TIME. But pudding-cup-related dark magicks should not be ruled out.

It’s weird that this segment requires way too much extra knowledge of the series, so I also would have accepted:

  • text is from Touya and it says “I love and appreciate you” “haha jk” “april fools, nerd”
  • text is from Kero and it’s just a picture of him eating a cake from earlier that day
  • text is from Eriol and it says “I’m actually going to give you information now” and Sakura immediately cries with relief
  • TEXT IS FROM MEILING, WHO WOULDN’T BE OVERJOYED AT THAT

Flashback Anon again. I agree if there isn’t a very good reason I’m gona be disappointed. On another subject, do you think Akiho might be being manipulated by someone/something else? We the public know that she’s the mistery robed figure in Sakura’s dream by now, but she doesn’t know who the person she looks down on is… yet we see the robed figure right outside her house! Also the dragon might be Momo’s true form (I refuse to believe that a simple plushie received a rotating card, refuse!)

Zero trust for this animal right here, she hides her body in a bag of secrets.

Akiho’s discussion of her dream with Kaito further links her to the figure in Sakura’s visions while implying that she’s somehow not doing it /on purpose/. Only in successive recurrences of the dream does she form the impression that she’s there because she wants something the other person she sees has.

So when we see the figure in Sakura’s vision revealed as a lure on the head of a sinister black serpent/fish/eel/dragon/whatever, does that imply that Akiho herself is an unwitting lure.

Is she such a perfect little friend for Sakura because somebody chose her for that purpose or made her that way, somebody who wants to make contact with Sakura as a very powerful and recently active magician, but not to show themselves to her directly?

And is Kaito the black eel or is he an obvious red herring?

OH BOY, I LOVE ALL THE CONTENT HERE, SO THANK YOU FOR INDIRECTLY GIVING ME AN EXCUSE TO THINK OUT LOUD FOR A LITTLE WHILE

so Akiho pretty much admits right in minute 2 that she is the shadowy hooded figure in Sakura’s dreams

image

BUT she doesn’t know who she’s looking at or why she is there, so there’s no intention behind her actions. She’s a neutral agent in this scenario.

image

(we also see that Kaito has a watch that resembles the Dream Clocks AND Akiho’s favorite book very strongly, so he is what we call in the biz a Prime Suspect) (also he introduced himself with the initial D which apparently means he’s a sorcerer and God knows why he would admit such vital and important information to a bunch of seventh graders unless he underrated their intelligence or he WANTED them to know who he represented)

image

Cut to the actual dream! We the intelligent and cunning audience see the figure that we are primed to see as Akiho trying to snag that sweet sweet key from Sakura

image

BUT! She is actually being used as a puppet by a much bigger thing, and I’d be hard pressed to find a more literal interpretation of that idiom

image

AND THEN TO MAKE IT EVEN MORE CONVOLUTED!!! This same figure is watching over Sakura’s real life house while she sleeps. Is this the same figure that was in her dreams? Is this the real Akiho, who watches over Sakura to protect her, while a fake version of her likeness is being used in the dream realm to scam Sakura into trusting her? Did she get her identity stolen by a big old dragon boy?

image

I DO like the idea that Kaito is using Akiho to get closer to Sakura. But if Sakura hasn’t made the connection between Akiho (good, trustworthy) and Hooded Figure (spooky, full of secrets) then I’m not sure how useful that is, UNLESS the dream is just a premonition of how things are eventually going to shake out in the future, which has indeed happened before in the exact same way so I don’t know why I’m surprised.

And if Akiho is, indeed, a mere puppet to gain Sakura’s affection and lower her defenses: is she a clone, or a cyborg, or a dream, or just a manufactured magical being à la Kero or Yue? And if that’s the case, how did she get so good at badminton?

TL;DR Akiho is probably being used as a tool to get closer to Sakura and her magic, and it’s totally working.

Flashback Anon here! I also didn’t think about the fact that he could have used The Fiery until I came across the theory and decided to look back, and it just clicked I guess? Like the fact that they showed him saying something but not what he was saying, the pose he used was the same he used to activate the cards, and if you factor all the damn secrecy and that sad AF (guilt perhaps?) look he gave her when she decided to try The Fly card and in this last episode… It’s a very valid theory.

Flashback anon here again, ran out of space. Well, Syaoran always could harness the cards powers, as he was one of the candidates to become their master, as for changing alliances well, it’s better than vanishing into thin air? The secrecy could be so Sakura won’t feel betrayed or forced to recreate an identical deck of cards. So far the new ones have been similar to the old ones or based on a person, but not all of them which hasn’t raised eyebrows yet.

Thank you very much for the concise list of clues!! I can see where this is coming from. I thought that by turning all the cards into Sakura cards they were completely under her control, but magic has proven itself time and time again in this series to be more fluid than rigid. If this is the case, I will accept it under one condition: there has to be a REALLY GOOD reason for him to keep this information from Sakura for so long!!!

I think Touya is doing something really dangerous trying to help Sakura :( I hope he will not die

^^^THIS is what I’m concerned about most of all. Touya spends WAY too much time at “work” and he won’t tell  a n y o n e  about his worries. A complaint I’ve seen about Clear Card is that there’s not enough Touya and Yukito, but I honestly think that Touya is deliberately isolating himself to execute some secret plan (think breakup arc-era Mamoru, but not terrible). He can’t get hurt, though, because CLAMP wouldn’t do that to me specifically, especially after they have been so very kind to me in every other way.

So, who else is having flashbacks to Yukito/Yue going to disappear when combining Kero’s increase in apetite and sleepiness?! Also what do you think of the fan theory that Syaoran used the Fiery?

Both of these are really interesting!! I thought that being sleepy and hungry was just Kero being Kero, but it certainly could be part of a bigger magic-related energy crisis, especially if it’s given more attention in the coming episodes. I saw the “Syaoran used the Fiery” theory floating around Twitter, and was promptly amazed at how many people came to that conclusion even though I would never have thought of it myself. At least for me it raises more questions than it answers (like did the original cards change allegiance, how did he harness their power, why he gotta be so shady about it, etc.) But I will admit that it makes more sense than “I’ve got a pocket, got a pocket full of sunshine, I got a love, got a love and it’s all mine, whoa, oh whoa oh”
