There should be a Toya/Yukito (Yue) closing credits done in a similar style to Eternal Eternity from SMC S3…. or would that be to much? Maybe less rose petals? Cause they haven’t been in show enough for me and giving them an ending song would be something!

I certainly wouldn’t complain. I suspect Yukito and Touya aren’t showing up much because boys be keeping secrets and singlehandedly running the gig economy of Japan.

Am I the only one shocked to find no Yue and Kero in the new opening?? Or are they there and I’m just blind?? Kero is especially surprising because he was always beside Sakura in the previous openings.

Kero is there I think for just one shot. You’re right that he’s usually a significant part of the OP, maybe they’re trying to symbolize how Sakura will have to be more independent in this arc?

As for Yue, he and Yamazaki are off filming their OWN opening theme together because they weren’t invited to this one.

If Sakura is the Red Queen/ Queen of Hearts, does that make Meilin a Cheshire Cat nekomimi?

If everyone is going to be Alice in Wonderland characters, they have no excuse not to bring back Tomoyegg.

honestly I’m srsly disappointed they put sentient momo right into the op/ed before their reveal. we could’ve had smth more like in catch you catch me, where for the first few episodes, shaoran wasn’t in the op. the op AFTER he appeared in the show he replaced fujitaka when the op flicked through the cast. it seems kinda lazy to just let momo waltz on through :(

^^^This would have been a really smart idea, and just goes to show once again that Catch You Catch Me is in fact the superior OP.

Yo Audrey, I’d like to know your thoughts and analysis on the new Op and En of Clear Card. They don’t convince me… I’m starting to believe Yamazaki is gonna die or something since he doesn’t show up in the Op with the rest of Sakura’s friends.

New opening hot takes!

  • Color palette is a lot more primary than usual. Feels more “mature” than the usual pastels, like CCS is going through an edgy phase by distancing itself from cute stuff.
  • Friendship ended with Yamazaki, now Akiho is our best friend.
  • Momo’s entrance had me shook. Something about the perpetually closed eyes and knowing smile gives me anxiety. She has no right to be that smug.
  • Roses everywhere, at many points physically surrounding Sakura like a cage. Maybe this represents romance, but I don’t know why it would be portrayed as so stifling. Maybe it’s a sign that a duel with the student council is going to happen.
  • The biggest thing I noticed was the flower reverse-blooming into a sprout, which to me indicates that time is in some capacity moving backwards.
  • Regardless, the song is really fun and I’d love to find a full version to download illegally.

New ending hot takes!

  • I enjoy whatever characterization they managed to foist upon Momo (wine mom friend who lurks on the groupchat but never responds). However I am still extremely wary of her for reasons listed above.
  • Pleased with the continuity that Spinny gets drunk on sugar. Vital canon information.
  • I don’t like the song as much as “Jewelry,” but it’s still cute and serves its purposes well.

As someone who has managed to find some of the manga online, the Momo reveal will, be even more “meh”. We knew that Momo was like Kero, it was obvious the moment they showed her, but placing that in the opening and ending (as adorable as it is) is gonna wash the small “surprise” factor away.

Yeah! I was never too concerned about Momo being a completely unexpected surprise, but now it feels like I have information that I haven’t earned yet, you know? Like, I was supposed to go on this journey with Sakura, and now I have access to secrets that she doesn’t. It would be like if Chibiusa wore a shirt that says “I’M HER DAUGHTER” in the opening credits and the episode starts with Usagi trying to figure out who she is.

The ending theme IS really cute though. And I get that the Momo reveal would have happened too late in the series to justify a new ending theme, so they had to shove it in now. So my plan is to enjoy it, but still be a little bit salty.

touya’s nonreaction at yue’s transformation makes me suspect it’s at least the fifteenth time that week. he just keeps doing it. he does the full, excessively Extra sequence every single time, like the worst sort of unskippable cutscene. at this point touya could hand-animate the entire thing from memory. save him.
