I certainly wouldn’t complain. I suspect Yukito and Touya aren’t showing up much because boys be keeping secrets and singlehandedly running the gig economy of Japan.
Kero is there I think for just one shot. You’re right that he’s usually a significant part of the OP, maybe they’re trying to symbolize how Sakura will have to be more independent in this arc?
As for Yue, he and Yamazaki are off filming their OWN opening theme together because they weren’t invited to this one.
Color palette is a lot more primary than usual. Feels more “mature” than the usual pastels, like CCS is going through an edgy phase by distancing itself from cute stuff.
Friendship ended with Yamazaki, now Akiho is our best friend.
Momo’s entrance had me shook. Something about the perpetually closed eyes and knowing smile gives me anxiety. She has no right to be that smug.
Roses everywhere, at many points physically surrounding Sakura like a cage. Maybe this represents romance, but I don’t know why it would be portrayed as so stifling. Maybe it’s a sign that a duel with the student council is going to happen.
The biggest thing I noticed was the flower reverse-blooming into a sprout, which to me indicates that time is in some capacity moving backwards.
Regardless, the song is really fun and I’d love to find a full version to download illegally.
New ending hot takes!
I enjoy whatever characterization they managed to foist upon Momo (wine mom friend who lurks on the groupchat but never responds). However I am still extremely wary of her for reasons listed above.
Pleased with the continuity that Spinny gets drunk on sugar. Vital canon information.
I don’t like the song as much as “Jewelry,” but it’s still cute and serves its purposes well.
Yeah! I was never too concerned about Momo being a completely unexpected surprise, but now it feels like I have information that I haven’t earned yet, you know? Like, I was supposed to go on this journey with Sakura, and now I have access to secrets that she doesn’t. It would be like if Chibiusa wore a shirt that says “I’M HER DAUGHTER” in the opening credits and the episode starts with Usagi trying to figure out who she is.
The ending theme IS really cute though. And I get that the Momo reveal would have happened too late in the series to justify a new ending theme, so they had to shove it in now. So my plan is to enjoy it, but still be a little bit salty.
