I don’t really know enough about small trees to speculate but maybe Sakura read The Little Prince recently and thinks they’re going to TAKE OVER THE PLANET

then Syaoran follows and STOPS TIME when Sakura’s friends are in danger

BUT Sakura’s friends were never really there, they were back at the shrine looking for Sakura

in fact, no one else could even see the animal ears besides her

SO: did Syaoran use up all his actual physical magic energy to save people who only existed in Sakura’s imagination?

effectively, giving her more time to think through the problem without distractions?

not gonna lie that’s pretty cute.
