I think a likely reason why the manga and anime said that Rika went to another school is because her voice actress passed away. In clear card, since most of the characters are voiced by their old VAs, they probably thought it would be better to just say that she went to another school (tho I’m not sure if she shows up in later chapters because I’m behind on the manga).

I do in fact feel bad about joking about this now that I know this information! Though I’m still also persuaded that Rika didn’t have a particularly compelling arc to begin with, it’s a smart choice on the writer’s part to have her absent. On the other hand it’s amazing that they got the whole rest of the voice cast together!

replied to your photoset “FORGET EVERY SINGLE THING I HAVE EVER SAID BEFORE THIS MOMENT. THIS IS…”

And then Mamoru closes a storybook, and this entire special is actually just a story to Chibiusa, THE 4TH PLOT TWIST

Season 2 of PGSM: Uranus and Neptune want to kill Princess Sailor Moon since she destroyed the earth in the past life (basically replaced the role of Saturn).

That would be hilarious if PGSM somehow got renewed for another season and they had to try to follow the actual continuity afterward? Like… send Chibiusa back to the future, we already have Sailor Luna…. we already solved the problem of a world destroying goddess so Saturn is no problem….. the Three Lights have got nothing on the musical powers of Minako Aino……….. we never needed a pegasus to begin with……………………

I find it interesting to compare Usagi and Serenity with how they think of Mamoru/Endymion’s other loved ones. Serenity obviously didn’t care that she destroyed her lover’s kingdom and killed his other loved ones in the process. Meanwhile Usagi probably would have some form of reaction if something bad were to happen to one of the Shitennou, and we knew that she found Hina a nice person.

For sure! Did you SEE how many second chances Usagi was willing to give Mio who is the worst “human” of all time? And it’s not just because she’s naïve, she just genuinely cares about the interests and welfare of the people around her even if she doesn’t agree with them. It occurs to me that Usagi would make a much better princess of the moon than Serenity.

Are there any tracks you like in PGSM? My personal favourite is Nayami no Sankakukankei (Troublesome Love Triangle).

As soon as I pressed “play” on this I was overwhelmed by the very clear visceral image of slow-motion vignette-filtered scenes of Usagi holding a scarf in her arms. I could never divorce this music from its context.

I really like the whole PGSM soundtrack, as well as the character songs! I do love the sad piano version of the opening theme, because I love sad piano versions of things. Like, you know, the song called Sad Sad Piano. I’m also super into Omoi Nayami Kara Aijou Afureru Merodi and Shinkoku na Wakare because I have a pretty deep affinity for cellos. As we all do.

What are some of your favourite artworks done by Naoko?

Ooooooh, I love this question! I could talk about this for pages upon pages, but I will keep it brief. I’ve looked through the artbooks in passing, and I am always struck by how stylistically soft and loose the art is. I especially love the ones where the characters are literally dressed like runway models. I’d love to someday take an in-depth look at all of them. Here are my top five off the top of my head!

Honorable Mention: This one has been my phone wallpaper for a long time, and it will therefore be the last thing I see when my phone finally gives up in exhaustion after playing too much Sailor Moon Drops.

5. Michiru I understand that you need to maintain your “aesthetic” but this is absolutely not the proper care and keeping of a cello.

4. This whole image is just “list of things Audrey is a sucker for.” Her silhouetted shadow is composed of negatives of newspaper clippings. The city skyline is encompassed in her bright canvas of a cape. The harsh red is being cut with the pastel colors that represent her friends. Usagi is in a mask. It features at least one cat. This image couldn’t possibly appeal to me more.

3. I want to own all of these dresses; much like the sailor uniforms themselves, they are more or less the same style, but they have some notable differences that make them personalized. It’s like ten thin individual monochrome pieces put together into one place; this page is its own museum. The knotwork and illuminated letters at the top are both very art nouveau and very Middle English poetry and I have been well documented to enjoy both of these things.

2. Naoko. What were you thinking. This is too much objective attractiveness in one place. They’re simply too pretty. You need to take it down a notch immediately.

1. What the fuck is going on here?

From the background, I’d guess that Chibiusa is visiting the Neo-Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood, which is now made entirely out of candy and is hosting a fundraiser barbecue out front. I can infer that this is supposed to be a celebration of some kind, based on the balloons and toys, but Chibiusa doesn’t look happy at all. Yet, she is not upset either. Those eyes scream emotional emptiness. Maybe it’s the tiny 1:4 scale clown dancing to her side. Maybe it’s the jellyfish alien nonchalantly wrapping a single pastalike tendril around her leg. She might just be overstimulated.

Anyway this is my favorite piece of Sailor Moon artwork of all time.
