More birthday tomfoolery: There’s that episode midseries where Usagi gets irrationally angry Mamoru doesn’t remember her birthday. The revealed joke is her remembering she never told him, but c’mon. Assuming a year of time has already past at this point, how would he NOT be aware when it is? It’s not like her friends or Usagi would have shut up about it last year, and ‘hey when’s your birthday’ is a pretty common question to ask a friend.

That’s a good point. Honestly, the only reason I know any of my friends’ birthdays is because of Facebook, but I don’t think that Usagi would allow the date of her most glorious and illustrious birth pass under the radar like that. Maybe the “reset memories” at the beginning of season 2 permanently erased all important dates from their minds. I’ve got nothing.

They haven’t been subtle this time around that Beryl seems to like Jedite because he’s a genuine suck-up rather than being competent (a whole discussion of Usagi and Beryl parallels being hungry for attention is in there somewhere) so I figured Kunzite’s sass is just implying ‘I’m a good enough minion you can’t to get rid of me’.

The Dark Kingdom literally is a kindergarten. The teacher’s pet gets preferential treatment, the show-off is loosely tolerated to boost state testing scores, the weird musical genius sits in the corner by himself, and there’s always that one kid with an inappropriately obvious crush on the teacher. 

That Minako screen cap reminded me… does that mean Minako doesn’t *transform* into Sailor V? It’s literally just a costume she puts on like Tuxedo Mask, and she just HAS powers?

That looks pretty nonmagical to me. I’m suspending judgement until later to give the screenwriters a chance to explain it, but I guess I was operating under the assumption that she magically transforms into Venus and then puts on the mask and the wrong colors. No word on WHY she would do that. It’s not like this attracts any less attention than the jaunty orange. 

Unless, she for some reason has not awakened as Venus yet and she literally just dresses up to go out at night and high-kick Tuxedo Mask in the face. I would be fine with that.

I’m more curious how Chibiusa thinks her mother forgot her birthday if they’re born on the same day. Did Usagi stop celebrating her own birthday

There’s no way Usagi in any incarnation would ever stop celebrating her own birthday. Even if it means sneaking into the crystal kitchens multiple times a day for her requisite intake of cake. Just enough for her to maintain her usual elegance.

Chibiusa sees her mother’s royal composure and half of her mind is like “I want to be a lady like my mom, and I suppose a lady must retain her humility and never seek such attentions” and the other half is like “GOD DAMN IT I JUST WANT A BALLOON AND A CUPCAKE MAYBE EVEN JUST LIKE A PAT ON THE HEAD AT THIS POINT”
