Drosselmeyer’s Forgotten Doll
——————————————
Ironically, I forgot about this picture
Or rather, I abandoned this picture for a greater cause. It was getting too complicated with too many layers for the simple doodle I started out with ;v; I learned a lot of new techniques with this piece, but working on it was stressful and I had to step away. So I’m leaving this picture unifinished. I’m too proud of my work to forget it, though. Besides, Miss Edel needs some love
I hope you like it ❤

Honestly if Rue from Princess Tutu was raised on the Electra Heart album instead of raven’s blood, the story wouldn’t be any different in any way

oooh, there’s so much i wanna say now that you’re done with tutu and i don’t have to worry about spoiling you but where to start. a lot of people tend to interpret fakir’s entire role change as a stealthy ‘pen is mightier than the sword’ pun! playing off of that, a lot of people really enjoy how fakir / ahiru’s gender roles tends to play into this: the finale has ahiru going in to ‘fight’ while fakir’s more in the background being her support. any thoughts??

Can you imagine how angry Fakir would be if he found out that his Designated Role in The Story was just to be a vessel for a pun? he would transcend his own existence and enter the realm beyond his own reality to punch Drosselmeyer in the face

For sure, there’s a ton of gender-role-flippery going on. When Fakir threw away his sword and dedicated his life to creating things instead of destroying them, I was like “oh good, toxic masculinity is finally dead.” And the way Ahiru manages to take on an active role in the battle without it being a harmful one is perfect and I expect nothing less. Ahiru, Fakir, and Mytho are kind of like a party that’s all bards. They’re always playing defense and support, and use their art to heal each other up.

Because you called Drosselmeyer a self insert author, I keep imagining him as those fanfic author’s who would like break the fourth wall and randomly talk in the middle of chapters, which is basically what he does, so

“To save the prince, the duck decided to give up her life as a human forever. [Author’s Note: I know I’m going to get so much hate for this rofl xD I’m so evil mwahahaha >:D]”

Random Unfounded Speculation I Just Came Up With (somebody could’ve already come up with it as well, I dunno)

Rue was meant to be Princess Tutu by the story. She loved Mythos as well, she’s the one who confesses during the climatic final fight (and is then basically killed by the raven), she has Magical Girl Powers of her own, and given her backstory she’s a perfect example of ~*DDD’s Drama*~. She’s also set against Fakir early on, she could totally be convinced to act against his No-Heart-Mythos plan. And she knows the fate of Tutu from the get go. She’s basically a ball of conflict ready to go off at any time.

But DDD thought that the story was moving along too slowly, it was too boring, so he just threw this random duck into the story and the rest is history.

DDD ruined his own tragedy.

NICE NICE NICE

I really like the idea that Ahiru was never forced into the role of Princess Tutu; she just naturally wants to help people and make them happy. So, while Rue had all the set-up and backstory to push her into the role of Princess Tutu, she didn’t have the same goals in mind. And this neatly fits into the theme of the whole series: the circumstances you find yourself in don’t define who you are.
