Maybe someday! I was resistant because it really seems to be a touchy topic, and everyone is either wildly in favor or wildly against. No matter what I said, it would either be too critical or too apologetic. That whole storm has died down a little, though it may just be because it’s between seasons.

If you like Chibiusa x Hotaru, you should see their interactions in SMC! It’s like MORE ROMANTIC SUBTEXT, especially with them surrounded in roses a la Utena style in the opening. (Plus there’s the fact that Usagi compared them to lovers in the beginning of Stars in the manga.)

I have not yet, because if I’m going to be a disappointment, I want to be a disappointment to everyone equally.

the Real Reason tuxedo mask isnt in the opening scene for crystal s3 is because he lost rock paper scissors and had to film the whole thing (theyve been short staffed ever since motoki got a turtle)

Can you imagine how filming that opening would go though:

“No, you can’t come down from those columns until we’re done with this shot. You should have brought a snack up there with you if you were so hungry”

“okay Hotaru I need you to lie naked with my daughter in this bed of rose petals– wait a minute who wrote this script”

“I’m NOT taking off the mask I don’t care if you think it would make it easier to see through the lens this is part of my artistic integrity”

The ending theme, by contrast, was filmed in five minutes because it was just Haruka and Michiru casually doing what they do every day: stare into the windblown distance, lie dramatically in flowerbeds, and play with each others’ hands

In regards to the post that said SMC Season III had a lot of callbacks to S: the biggest callback I saw was the opening sequence. There are a lot of similarities between that & the original S opening, if you compare the two.

I noticed that the two of them had a similar “casually lounging on decimated architecture” motif going on. 

SMC Season III has a lot of callbacks to Sailor Moon S in style and sometimes in actual animation, the staff definitely enjoyed and paid homage to the 90s anime!

You seriously need to. Season 3 has a new director, new animation, the pacing and story telling is much better (and focuses less on Usagi and Mamoru’s nonsense), and it’s like night and day between the first two arcs and the infinity arc. Do it, or my guardian Jupiter will thunder upon you.

The power of Jupiter compels me! I can’t refuse an endorsement like this in good conscience; consider it on my list of things to see and do!

I haven’t seen any of season 3 yet! I saw the first two seasons in passing when my roommate was watching it last year, but I didn’t give it much attention. I will definitely check out the third season when I get the chance; the animation looks amazing from what I’ve seen, and the opening/closing themes are as delightful as anything.
