Top 10 songs from sailor moon? (Anime, live action, games; whatever you like)

Great question! I’m sorry you had to wait two months for an answer!!! Off the top of my head, these are the tunes that I listen to all the time. (All links are to the first youtube video that showcased the song I wanted.)

10. Sailor War Supreme. In the best songs, the form matches the content. In this song, there’s like 3 different melodies battling for dominance to mirror the 3 different ideologies of the people involved, but by the end, they are all singing in unison, finding common ground. You would think that the stern march of Sailor War would clash with the more elegant tunes, but they complement each other perfectly. The counterpart harmonies are absolutely seamless; every space is filled with a vocal flourish from one of the groups.

9. An Evil Dream. Probably a weird pick, since I’ve only found it on one soundtrack and it’s not like a major showstopper. The syncopation and the synth give it this funky nightmare-disco aura. I love Miyuki’s nasal voice for Usagi, it’s the perfect fit for this song.

8. Sakura Fubuki. I immediately loved it the first time I heard it, I think in the episode where Rei is tricked into singing a benefit concert for children and she starts singing about how God is dead? It has a very different vibe from most of the other songs in PGSM, or in all of Sailor Moon for that matter. It has this low-key, jazzy piano thing going on, to contrast all the high energy percussive songs on the album. The Live Concert version is also amazing because Ami is there.

7. Stairway to the Moon. I don’t even know who sings this, but it’s gorgeous! I love the “theme and variation” style that I’m finding hard to explain; each phrase is based around the same chord structure, but varies the pacing and intensity. It sounds sort of like a round that a capella singers would use as a warmup.

6. Fukkatsu Crisis Yurusamaji. I’m REALLY into tight harmonies. And the Outer Senshi slaying the game.

5. Music of the Spheres. I think this was only in the most recent musicals, but it really has the spirit of the old Myu battle songs. I love the melody that just goes up or down a 2nd set against the driving beat. It’s a very easy song to dance to. I want an extended dance remix of this song. (It doesn’t hurt that I believe the title is a reference to “musica universalis,” what ancient philosophers called the harmonious movement of all things in the universe. Like, the galaxy is an eternal symphony and every element has its place. Isn’t that beautiful?)

4. Friend. It’s a very cute, almost generic J-pop style song, but then like three-quarters of the way through the song it slows down the tempo and gets really heavy for a second and I tear up and then it bounces back with just as much energy as before. It’s incredibly sincere and genuine. I’m just reading through the lyrics translation right now and my eyes are getting misty. It’s just a song about how much Usagi loves her friends, and it’s the quintessential song to end PGSM with.

3. Moon Pride. Probably the reason I watched the first two arcs of Crystal? I didn’t think much of the story, but I watched it every 2 weeks just so I could see the opening title again. That electric guitar riff is life-changing. The vocals are stellar. I could put this song on at a party and people would not even question it. I actively seek out this song if I need to get pumped up for something. This is what happens when Sailor Moon goes HARD and I love it.

2. LINK. Gosh, I love LINK. I’ve never seen any of the musicals, but I’ve listened to enough versions of this song that I can pretend I have. Again, the first time I heard it I thought it was generic and forgettable, but it’s amazingly catchy. Just from the vocals alone, when it moves from Usagi singing alone to all of them singing in a group, it feels like the epitome of female solidarity.

1. M O O N   R E V E N G E. Need I explain what a perfect song this is? As soon as you hear those first two notes you know what’s going down. Each Senshi gets a solo verse with character specific lyrics that showcases her vocal style. Here’s Peach Hips singing it live at the Dreaming Moon concert; they’re clearly loving it as much as the audience is.

There are many more that I listen to, but here’s a selection of my eclectic tastes. Now everyone is obligated to tell me their favorites! What songs are missing from my list? Maybe I’ll find some new faves!

If you haven’t done so– Top 10 (or more? so many to choose from) villain outfits? :D

Oh yes. This is the real stuff, right here. Thank you for requesting this.

10. Viluy barely gets any screentime but she singlehandedly turned the cultural connotation of tinfoil hats from “kind of weird conspiracy theory” to “hip”

image

9. I think this is Chibiusa’s distorted imagination of what she wants to look like when she’s older, and that distorted imagination does a pretty damn good job.

image

8. If you don’t have shoulder feathers are you even a Sailor Moon villain??

image

7. What Eudial has going for her is the matching Daimon Car that she has as a matching accessory. Sort of like Barbie and her Malibu convertible.

image

6. This outfit is literally straight off the runway already so of COURSE Koan gets a seat of honor at the well-dressed villain table

image

5. For what can only be described as a sexy Michelin Man costume with a fish stenciled on it, this look is surprisingly not bad.

image

4. Beryl set the standards SUPER HIGH for every villain that came after her. Like, she was a season 1 villain, she didn’t have to go that hard.

image

3. This bitch knew what she was doing with the 3 kidney-sized baubles draped around her neck.

image

2. Anyone who wears what is apparently a solid gold breastplate for thousands of years is not to be fucked with.

1. Fun fact about Sailor Iron Mouse: none of us ever deserved her. She bore upon her back the pinstriped zoot suit. She answered the phone for our sins.

Top ten outfits from our favorite little pink hellspawn Chibiusa? I love all your top ten posts by the way, your top ten for Mamoru is honestly one of my fave tumblr posts

After much research and comparative data I have come to the conclusion that Chibiusa might actually be one of the most well-dressed characters in the show. The evidence is presented below.

10. I’m going to make perhaps a contentious claim and say that Chibiusa dresses herself better than either of her parents ever could. Look at how coordinated this is. I suppose when your mom and dad dress like they’re at a fairytale-themed pastel glitter wedding every single day, you learn to fend for yourself.

image

9. Casual Friday Baby on her way to The Office with some Important Business in her Official Briefcase

image

8. One of Chibiusa’s recurring fashion choices is what I like to call “the Hello Kitty thing” which is a small bow that picks up on the accent colors in the ensemble.

image

7. Laura Ingalls is SO jealous right now.

image

6. I know this shot is small but it’s the only one where you get a full view of the dress and see the giant black bunny patch. When Chibiusa layers, she layers with INTENTION.

image

5. My favorite American Girl doll was Molly, and all her clothes always came with outrageously specific hair ribbons that match the trim of one dress but can never be combined with any other outfit, ever, under penalty of just looking really dumb. That’s what this reminds me of.

image

4. V-neck for Victory!!!

image

3.  Again the socks and shoes are so perfectly coordinated that neither Usagi nor Mamoru could have had a hand in it, but what really tops off this look is the elusive Mona Lisa smile of those sweater-dwelling rabbits.

image

2. PERFECT execution of the Hello Kitty thing, 10/10. The blue outfit with the pink hair is like cotton candy attending a holiday party.

1. “We have our Arts so we won’t die of Truth.” -Friedrich Nietzsche

HAVE YOU DONE A TOP USAGI OUTFITS? CAUSE YOU SHOULD. pls keep being amazing <3

I HAVE DONE ONE and I was going to fill up this post with honorable mentions, but I actually have enough of those to do another full list. So here’s Usagi’s top 11-20 outfits. Surprise!!!

20. Usagi had to kill a librarian to get this cardigan

image

19. Trying to emulate the fashionable stylings of the inimitable Naru Osaka

image

18. This is the look that inspired Steve from Blue’s Clues to go all in on green stripes.

image

17. Anyway Usagi can canonically time travel, so it should come as no surprise that she used this knowledge of things to come to jump on the romper trend about 20 years early

image

16. I am absolutely willing to bet that Ikuko started sewing bunny patches on every piece of clothing because Usagi kept losing her sweaters and coats. Also these mittens are definitely connected by a string through the sleeves.

image

15. pink and green (mid tier)

image

14. PINK AND GREEN (HIGH TIER)

image

13. PINK AND GREEN (GOD TIER)

image

12. Usagi is literally wearing a fanny pack and it in no way negates the cuteness of the outfit. In fact, the combines factors of the pastel color and the jauntiness of the angle at which it is worn kind of… accentuate it. I don’t know how I feel about this.

image

11. Every time I see this image I can barely hold back tears. Her jacket is just too darn big for her small arms.

Top ten Hotaru outfits, please? (your lists are HILARIOUS by the way, I love them)

image
image
image

EVERYONE WANTS TO KNOW HOW OUR LITTLE DEATHGODDESS CHILD DRESSES AND I WISH I HAD A BETTER ANSWER

I have done too much research on this topic and I find that there is a stark divide between “outfits Hotaru chose herself” and “outfits Hotaru definitely did NOT choose herself,” so these are listed more or less in order of the personal autonomy involved

10. “Hey Michiru, what do babies wear”
“I’m thinking ruffles, and a bow that is also a pompom”
“Oh cool. Hey Michiru, are babies supposed to have hands”
“No dear those grow in later”
“Right of course”

image

9. This HAS to be a hand-me-down from Chibiusa. There’s no other explanation.

image

8. Haruka bought this pale yellow cardigan under the mistaken impression that this is what all young girls enjoy wearing (making zero exceptions for the fact that this young girl is the guardian of death) and Hotaru only sometimes puts it on to make Haruka feel good about herself

image

7. We used to have sunhats that perfectly matches the trim of our sweaters, but not since The Accident

image

6. Quick and easy DIY Kiki’s Delivery Service cosplay

image

5. Goth on top, Lolita Fashion Doll Maker Online on the bottom

image

4. Some Hotaru Classic™, but with a floral twist, which in retrospect seems like the obvious choice, since nothing represents death and rebirth better than a perennial plant

image

3. I could easily make a “this kid only shops at Hot Topic” joke, but Hot Topic only WISHED it had Hotaru’s simple clarity

image

2. I just want to point out that Hotaru almost never even leaves her house, but when she does it’s gotta be the “a woman in the Victorian era was buried in this shawl” ensemble

image

1. This is the ultimate Hotaru Tomoe aesthetic. I would totally believe that this is a French schoolgirl growing up in early-to-mid-20th century Paris running through the cobblestone sidestreets with a heel of bread, using the tall smokestacks as a landmark once the sun gets too low.

Top ten Setsuna outfits ? :)

It’s going to be hard to put together a top 10 for Setsuna, because as far as I know, she only has approximately 4 outfits. As the Patron Saint of Wasted Potential herself, she doesn’t really get a character-oriented wardrobe because she has no character. That sounds unkind; I love Setsuna to pieces, but gosh darn if I can tell you anything about who she is as a person.

With that said. On with the list.

4. The one trait that Setsuna does have is “older than the other ones” and nothing gets that message across quite like LAVENDER SKIRT SUIT. This is the outfit that your grandmother wears to family reunions, Sunday mass, and the occasional brunch. Otherwise, it hangs up immaculately ironed in a plastic garment bag from 1983 Sears.

image

3. Did anyone tell Setsuna that she doesn’t need to dress like a teacher to homeschool Hotaru? You can pretty much wear whatever you want. Maybe save the deep crimson pantsuit for a benefit gala or a gay wedding. It’s strangely formal attire for an individual who just kind of chills at home with her abducted daughter.

image

2. Setsuna did get a pretty cute sweater dress and some nice boots for the S movie. Unfortunately, everyone would rather forget that the S movie ever happened.

image

1. And finally, the rare and elusive Casual Setsuna. It’s probably laundry day in the Meioh-Tenoh-Kaioh-Tomoe household, and our dear immortal goddess of time had to borrow some slacks from Haruka, a simple black top from Michiru, and a neon orange pinny from a local high school gym class to warn oncoming traffic just in case it starts to get dark.

image

(She was going to buy herself another matching suit but spent all her money on popsicles)

Top ten Rei outfits?

OH, REI-CHAN, YOU DELIGHTFUL FRUIT SALAD OF FASHION CHOICES… Half the time, she dresses very sleek and feminine, and half the time it’s like a toddler got to pick her own outfit for the first time. Let us observe.

10. The Rei Hino Classic, very on-brand with color, cut, and silhouette. Pick one up for your collection today.

9. A childlike but not irredeemable curry-making uniform. If you’re going to make instant curry anyway, you might as well look adorable while doing it.

8. The official “Usagi is my girlfriend” blazer

7. If you tell me who made you wear those knee-high cream-colored boots with your turquoise denim jacket and Kraft Mac ‘n Cheese turtleneck, I swear I’ll bring them to justice. I’ll make them pay for what they’ve done.

6. She probably had to be hermetically sealed into this sweater and dress with shrink wrap, but it was totally worth it.

5. How many layers is Rei wearing in this picture? How many more layers are there that you can’t see? Is it not true that every thing exists either under or over everything else? Isn’t the universe just a long series of various layers?

4. Baby’s first boob window

3. Trying to take a leaf out of Ami’s book, but accidentally dropping it into a fire, and vacuuming up the ashes, and dumping those ashes into a blender with 2 different brands of black raspberry ice cream

2. A 28-year-old CEO of a major technological solutions company, who sacrificed everything to climb to the top but begins to wonder if it was all worth it

1. I am nothing if not predictable, but no one can blame me for putting this one at #1. Cinched waist. Rolled-up cuffs. Socks that blur the fine line between blue and green. White slip-ons. A single novelty clip shaped like a tulip.

And most importantly: built-in hand-warmer.

Let’s be real: first-grade me would have killed for this look.
